The Times have compiled a list of managers that could replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Rangers after the Ibrox club sacked the Dutchman – and Gerardo Seoane is on that list, following his Bayer Leverkusen exit earlier this year.
The Swiss gaffer, 44, took Leverkusen to third place in 2021-22 – their best finish in seven seasons. Despite that, he had little credit in the bank and after a poor start to the 2022-23 season, he was sacked. He remains out of work.
He has certainly impressed in management – winning three Swiss Super League titles during his time at Young Boys. In that spell, he won 97 of 148 games in charge, more than 65%. An incredible record. He won 26 of 56 at Leverkusen.
While the main candidates include Michael Beale, Sean Dyche and Ralph Hasenhuttl, Seoane could be a contender. A manager that actually beat Celtic twice during the 2021-22 season – in which he also praised Ange Postecoglou.
As per the Record in 2021, he said: “Every coach has their own way of doing things. You can clearly see the way Celtic are approaching their games. They are good in attack so we will need to keep it far tighter than we did in Glasgow.”

It would be an excellent appointment. The only poor spell in his managerial career so far has been the last couple of months at Leverkusen – but there are reasons for that. He was hardly backed in the summer, making just two signings.
That is despite taking them to third. So, he will point to that as a reason for Leverkusen’s poor form at the start of 22-23. At Young Boys, and his start at Leverkusen, he has thrived. If he can take that to Rangers, he would surely impress.
