Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a move for Manchester United defender Eric Bailly last month.

After Manchester United’s dramatic win at the weekend, any Tottenham fans aware of the club’s reported interest in Eric Bailly may have felt that Mauricio Pochettino had all the reason that he could possibly need not to try and bring the centre-back to Spurs.
Bailly endured a nightmare afternoon while he was on the pitch. He has to take a large share of the blame for both of Newcastle’s goals, and the humiliation from his early substitution only emphasised how disappointing a display it was for the Ivory Coast international.
But if anything, that performance should perhaps convince Spurs that January is an ideal time to move for the £30 million ace if they are going to go after the defender at some stage. The Daily Mirror reported in September that he was on Pochettino’s wishlist.
The potential move would be a gamble given his recent form, but he is a quality centre-back that could bring something to Spurs’ side if Pochettino was able to get him back on track after a difficult spell at Old Trafford.

And it appears to not entirely be out of the question to suggest that United would be open to offers for Bailly. ESPN reported this week that Mourinho has his eye on both Milan Skriniar and Alessio Romagnoli.
In light of his performance against the Magpies, it would not be a shock if Bailly would be one player who Mourinho would not mind selling if he landed his two targets.
And although it would be a risk from Tottenham, they should now feel that January is the perfect time to move in the hope that his current form and Mourinho having other targets paves the way for what could prove to be a potential bargain.
