West Ham United striker Diafra Sakho was linked with a move to West Bromwich Albion in the summer of 2016.
West Ham United signed Diafra Sakho from Metz in the summer of 2014 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £3.5 million.
The striker did relatively well in his first season at West Ham, scoring 10 goals and creating 23 chances in 23 Premier League appearances, but since then he has failed to love up to expectations.
During the 2015-16 campaign, Sakho scored five goals and created 14 chances in 21 Premier League matches. The 27-year-old has scored one goal in two league fixtures so far this season.
Injuries and fitness issues have had a major impact on the Senegal international’s time at West Ham, but even when fit, the striker has failed to impressive consistently.
Sakho’s current contract with the Hammers runs until June 2018, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, but perhaps it is time for the London club to sell him in the summer transfer window.
It is unlikely that Sakho is going to get any better even if he stays fit. For the Hammers to progress as a club and on the pitch, they need a better and more prolific striker.
Back in early August 2016, The Guardian reported of West Bromwich Albion’s interest in Sakho. The Baggies were reportedly prepared to pay as much as £15m in order to secure the services of the Senegalese striker, but the move collapsed due to a back problem, according to BBC Sport.
West Ham could have made a massive profit had Sakho been fit and had the deal gone through. Now in the summer of 2017, the Hammers are not going to get that much money for the striker, but they should still be open to the idea of selling him.
