The 5-1 defeat to the USA should be the last straw for the Scottish FA.
Scotland’s international team has been an embarrassment to their nation for quite a while.
Being demolished by the USA was a new low, and the manager should take the blame.
It is not just this result which should see Levein on his way; he has been far from inspriational ever since taking over in 2009.
He talks a good game, but when his teams step onto the pitch, they have seemed wayward and simply not good enough.

This summer will mark 14 years since Scotland competed at a major international tournament, you have to go back to their ill-fated World Cup campaign in 1998.
It of course would not be fair to blame Levein solely for the Scottish team’s troubles.
The players are not good enough either, with talk of a Great Britain team for the Olympics, how many Scots are even good enough to come under consideration?
Scottish football is seen around the world as uninspiring beyond the big two, and of them, Rangers financial troubles have plunged the SPL into further difficulties.
There is a lack of money in the game, but this should not be an excuse for failing to produce quality players.
Levein has had his opportunity. He has not been able to get anywhere near the best out of the Scottish team, in fact after the USA game it is hard to see how it could get worse.
Losing home and away to Spain in qualifying is no embarrassment, but failing to put up a fight against the Czech Republic was.
Levein notoriously lined his side up against the Czech Republic, their main rivals for second place, with a 4-6-0 formation failing to play a recognised striker.
It was an embarrassment for Scottish football, in only his third match in charge. In 2012, the results are still embarrassing.
Many say it does not matter who is in charge of Scotland, they will be poor regardless. Perhaps true, but surely it won’t always be this bad?
He has a contract until 2015, but Scotland’s World Cup qualifying group is a tough one.
Their opponents are Croatia, Serbia, Wales, Belgium, and Macedonia. If Levein is in charge, Scotland will likely be battling it out with Wales to avoid bottom spot.
At least a new manager could inject some excitement into the team, and attempt to make a fresh start.
