Jack Roles has confirmed on Twitter that he has been released by Tottenham Hotspur.
The 22-year-old midfielder has spent his entire career with the North London club.
Roles, who had a loan in League One with Burton Albion last season, has revealed that Thursday was a ‘sad day’ for him as he prepares to leave Tottenham.
Here’s how the midfielder reacted on Twitter:
Writing on the wall
Roles has never made a senior competitive appearance for the Lilywhites but has impressed in friendlies down the years.
But the writing was pretty much on the wall last summer when he was loaned to Burton without signing a contract extension first.
That was a big indication that the North Londoners were going to release him at the end of his existing deal.
At 22, he would’ve been firmly in Spurs’ first-team plans by now if he was ever going to be.
There’s no doubt he’ll be picked up, if even by a side in the lower leagues.
During the 2019-20 campaign, Roles, while on loan at Cambridge United, scored a phenomenal 35-yard lob in what was a very decent spell with the League Two outfit.
