Previously linked, should Celtic reignite interest in Spurs midfielder Josh Onomah as a Stuart Armstrong replacement?
Josh Onomah is likely to be sent out on loan again by Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Daily Mail, as the midfielder looks to continue his development.
Where Onomah will go remains to be seen, though, as despite previous links to Premier League clubs, the division’s transfer window is now closed and therefore that can no longer happen.
A return to Aston Villa – where the 21-year-old spent last season on loan – had been mooted, although now looks unlikely following comments from Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.
“I’m going to decide if he’s a player that can stay with us or maybe if we believe he can play more, to find maybe some alternative for him to play more than last season. But to try for him to be more involved than he was last season at Aston Villa,” Pochettino told football.london.
So where else?
Before Onomah joined Villa last summer, the Independent reported how Celtic made an offer for the England Under-21 international but it was rejected.
Arguably, the youngster is still exactly the sort of player the Hoops need to bring in before their own transfer window closes on August 31, having lost Stuart Armstrong to Southampton this summer.
Things haven’t started brilliantly for Brendan Rodgers’ men this season, having lost their second Scottish Premiership match to Hearts and failing to make the Champions League playoff stage after defeat to AEK Athens.
The exit of Armstrong has left a gap in their midfield and the energy and tenacity of someone like Onomah could give them just the lift they need after a stuttering beginning to 2018/19.
