Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron is on the verge of signing for Newcastle United.

South American football journalist Tim Vickery believes Paraguay international Miguel Almiron is the ‘ideal player’ for Newcastle United.
Sky Sports reported on Wednesday afternoon that the 24-year-old has arrived in Tyneside ahead of a club-record transfer to the north-east club.
It is said that the Atlanta United midfielder will move to St James’ Park for a fee believed to be in the region of £21 million – breaking the club’s previous record when they paid Real Madrid £16 million for Michael Owen in 2005.
Nonetheless, Vickery, who is an experienced journalist on the South American continent offered, a mouthwatering insight into what Newcastle fans can expect from the highly-rated youngster.
“He is going to run with the ball at devastating pace, with a lovely left foot,” Vickery told Sky Sports News on 30/01/2019 at 1:40 pm. “These are his two great virtues. Very, very quick when running with the ball and a left foot to open up defences.
“An ideal player for a team that wants to defend deep, cover up and launch the counter-attack. If you want to do that, Almiron is your man.
“There is the risk, he’s 25 next month and European clubs think this is an advanced age to bring a South American player into European football. He has to adapt – I think he has a lot to bring to the Premier League, although I do think, he is going to have to sharpen up his options and decision-making in the final third.”

During the recently concluded season, Almiron helped Atlanta win the MLS Cup as he scored 13 goals and supplied the same amount of assists in 38 games in all competitions, according to transfermarkt.
If the deal does go through then it will no doubt add a much-needed boost to the club, whose supporters have been looking for some ambition from the owner Mike Ashley.
On Tuesday night, Rafa Benitez masterminded his team to an amazing 2-1 win over Premier League champions Manchester City, with Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie getting on the scoresheet for the home team.
As a result of that win, the Magpies moved up to 14th place in the league table and they are now five points clear of danger, with 18th-placed Cardiff losing at Arsenal on the same night.
