Leeds United may be in the market for new signings this month, and Fiorentina’s Erick Pulgar is a name being heavily linked.

The Whites could stand to add a new midfielder in order to offer cover and competition for both Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich.

That would require a midfielder who can protect the back four and also play as a box-to-box player to come in – and Pulgar seems to fit the bill.

Pulgar has played as a holding midfielder for most of his career, but with seven goals and eight assists last season, he has also shown the ability to play further forward.

Marcelo Bielsa had left his post as Chile boss by the time Pulgar emerged, but La Nazione claim Bielsa has asked Leeds to sign the 26-year-old.

So what would Leeds be signing if they do land Pulgar? Well, South American football expert Tim Vickery has offered his view to Sky Sports.

Vickery noted that Pulgar has started to score goals by ghosting late into the box, which will lead some to think that he can be like Klich.

Vickery added that he thinks Pulgar would be a real asset to Leeds and a ‘solid citizen’ to bring in, praising him for being tall and versatile.

“Erick Pulgar is a defensive midfielder, plays with Fiorentina in Italy, and in fact, in the last couple of years, he seems to have added goals to his game,” said Vickery. “He’s been ghosting into the box, he’s tall, versatile, and if there is something in this, then I think he would be an asset, I think he would be a solid citizen to bring into Leeds’ central midfield,” he added.
