Newcastle United are said to have scouted the young Brazilian striker.

The South American football expert, Tim Vickery, does not believe Marrony will join Newcastle United.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle have scouted the Vasco da Gama youngster as they look to add another forward to their ranks this summer.

The newspaper claims Marrony could be allowed to leave the Brazilian side for offers lower than his €35 million buyout clause (around £32m).

But appearing as a guest on Talksport’s Hawksbee & Jacobs show earlier (Wednesday) Vickery said: “I can’t see it really, because I can’t imagine how he could get a work permit.

“As far as I’m aware, he doesn’t have any EU passports.

“The only way around it, I think, would be to pay him an absolute fortune and he hasn’t really done anything to justify that one.

“So I’d be very surprised a) if it does go through and b) if it does go through, he gets a work permit.”

Newcastle have already signed one Brazilian striker this summer, in the shape of Joelinton.

Like his compatriot Marrony, Joelinton has yet to be capped by his country’s senior side and does not possess an EU passport.

But it is thought that the £40m fee Newcastle are reported to have paid for the 22-year-old, whose reputation is far greater than Marrony’s anyway having already played in Europe, enabled him to qualify for a work permit.
