Tim Sherwood has spoken about the bottle-throwing incident involving Dele Alli during Tottenham’s win against Arsenal.
Tim Sherwood has hilariously stated that he is ‘surprised’ that Dele Alli didn’t ‘volley’ the bottle that was thrown at him during Tottenham’s Carabao Cup win against Arsenal on Wednesday night.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side recorded a comfortable 2-0 win against their near neighbours, with Alli and Son Heung-Min getting on the scoresheet.
After Son had given his side the lead in the first half, Alli brilliantly brought down Harry Kane’s ball over the top before he dinked the ball over the onrushing Petr Cech in an effortless manner.
Shortly after, as Alli was going to take a throw-in, a bottle was thrown at his direction by one of the home supporters.
Former Spurs boss Sherwood put a funny spin on the serious incident, but he did make it clear that these types of situations need to be eradicated from the game.
“The only surprise to me is that Dele Alli didn’t bring that down, kept it up five times and volleyed it back into them,” Sherwood told Sky Sports’ The Debate Show on 19/12/2018 at 10:30 pm.
“Unfortunately, we are going to get to a stage where we are going to see some Police inside the ground. Uniformed up, it’s the only deterrent.”
Midfielder Alli was awarded the Man of the Match after the game as he helped book his side’s place in the semi-final of the competition where they will now play Chelsea.
The two-legged affair will take place next month, with the first fixture set to be played at Wembley before the return leg is played at Stamford Bridge.
