Tim Sherwood has lauded and applauded the impact Destiny Udogie has made at Tottenham Hotspur this season.

There have been many success stories under Ange Postecoglou so far and you can certainly put his all-action left-back near the top of that list.

Whilst Destiny Udogie signed for Tottenham in 2022, he only made his debut for the club this season, after he was sent back on loan to Udinese.

That decision to delay his Spurs debut has worked wonders because, according to Tim Sherwood, he has been a ‘breath of fresh air’ this season, as he told Premier League Productions (15/01/24 at 5:50 pm).

One of the reasons why Tim Sherwood thinks the 21-year-old is performing well is because of the role he is playing under Ange Postecoglou.

This isn’t your average fullback, who is being asked to bomb up and down the pitch. But someone who plays or acts more as a number ten than a left-sided fullback.

It’s incredible to watch and Tim Sherwood hailed Tottenham’s ‘unknown’ figure and the impact he is having so far.

“He is a little unknown because he has been on loan and just come in this season,” said Sherwood.

“He is a breath of fresh air, Udogie. Brilliant. But the manager is playing him to his strengths.”

Attack and defence

There are very few fullbacks who have a great balance of attack and defence, but it’s fair to say that Udogie can put himself into that category.

Whilst someone like Pedro Porro is seriously impressive going forward, you just know that there are those vulnerabilities when he is defending and Tim Sherwood was sure to mention it again.

You can’t point something like that at Udogie because, as he proved during the 2-2 draw at Manchester United when up against the in-form Alejandro Garnacho.

Or when he faced Bukayo Saka in the north London derby and he was booked pretty early.

From a defensive aspect, he locked both of those players in and it’s just another sign of the quality he has in his locker and the levels he can reach.
