Tim Sherwood has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur’s goal against West Ham United should have been ruled out, as Serge Aurier made a foul in the build up.
Serge Aurier lunged into a tackle on the half way line, before the ball eventually ended up a Heung-Min Son’s feet, and the South Korean lashed it into the back of the net.
And Sherwood feels that Aurier’s challenge should have been called as a foul by referee Mike Dean.
“That is a foul,” Sherwood said. “He’s not in control of himself. He gets the ball, but he’s endangering an opponent.”
Sherwood’s view is a controversial one, as even West Ham boss David Moyes admitted after the match that he felt Aurier’s tackle was a fair one.
The Ivorian certainly took the ball, but he made a lunging motion which does often get awarded as a foul in modern day football.
Despite this slice of fortune, Spurs left Wembley disappointed, as they were not able to get past West Ham on a frustrating night.
David Moyes’ sat very deep in the contest and showed very little attacking intent, but a belter from Pedro Obiang had put them into the lead.
Son’s goal did at least rescue a point for Spurs, but Pochettino’s side are still playing catch up in the race for a top four spot, and currently sit three points behind Liverpool.
