Tim Sherwood has claimed that Fulham got the ‘best end of the deal’ when Tottenham Hotspur signed Ryan Sessegnon, as he seemingly suggested that they made a mistake in allowing Josh Onomah to leave.

On Deadline Day, Tottenham confirmed on their official website that they had secured the services of the highly-rated Fulham winger Sessegnon, with playmaker Onomah going the other way on a permanent basis [club website].

In recent seasons, Onomah has been on-loan at various clubs in the Championship, but he has struggled to prove his worth, as he will now be hoping to get back to his best at Craven Cottage.

Speaking to the Debate on Sky Sports Football (08/08/2019 at 10:35 pm), former Spurs manager Sherwood shared his thoughts on Sessegnon and Onomah going in opposite directions.

“Sessegnon has come into the football club as well,” Sherwood told the Debate. “Whether he plays left-back or left-sided midfield. For me, he’s still behind Danny Rose. I hope Danny Rose is still there when the European window closes. And I think he will be.

“I think Sessegnon is a talented boy. This day and age, we looked at the figures there, £25 million is not an awful lot of money. But I can’t help but thinking Fulham might have the best end of this deal because Josh Onomah, who has gone the other way, is a top young footballer.

“He just lost his way slightly. He’s gone out and had a few loans. I am sure Scott Parker will get him working. Drill it into him that he needs to get his head down. He’s a got a real opportunity to be a top player and I am sure he will come back and be a top player in the Premier League.”

In Fulham, Onomah is joining a team that was recently relegated from the Premier League, as they have high hopes of making a return back to the big time.

Under Scott Parker, they will no doubt want to play attack-minded football, which would suit Onomah’s style, as he will be looking to prove that he can cut it in England’s top-flight in years to come.
