Tim Sherwood has said on talkSPORT (9:13am, October 21, 2022) that former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino should take charge of Aston Villa following the dismissal of Steven Gerrard.
Villa sacked Liverpool legend Gerrard as their new manager last night following the defeat to Fulham away from home at Craven Cottage in London in the Premier League.
The Villans are 17th in the Premier League table at the moment with nine points from 11 matches, level on points with third-from-bottom Wolverhampton Wanderers.
90min reported this week that former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain boss Pochettino is among the candidates to become the Villa manager.
Tim Sherwood wants Mauricio Pochettino at Aston Villa
Sherwood said: “The top of the list has to be Pochettino, with the style of play and what he did with Tottenham. He is a very good manager.”
The Tottenham boss added: “I don’t think Mauricio goes in there and thinks that he does Aston Villa a favour, not by any means. It’s a huge football club.
“What clubs are out there for Mauricio Pochettino at the moment? I am not sure there are bigger clubs than Aston Villa out there for him. I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for him.”

Blockbuster managerial appointment
In our view, Mauricio Pochettino would be a blockbuster managerial appointment for Aston Villa.
The 50-year-old did exceptionally well at Tottenham Hotspur and also won the Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.
We saw during his time at Tottenham how good Pochettino was with young players and how he got the best out of them.
Yes, Villa are struggling at the moment and could get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season, but they are an established club in the Premier League who have massive potential.
