Tim Sherwood suggested on Sky Sports News (2:08pm, January 30, 2021) that Liverpool should make a move for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, suggested that Liverpool should offer £100 million+ for the 20-year-old central defender.
Sherwood also suggested West Ham United star Declan Rice, who can operate as a defender or as a midfielder, for the Reds, but he added that it is not going to be easy for the defending Premier League champions to get either of the players.
According to The Telegraph, Liverpool want to bring in a new centre-back due to injury problems before the January transfer window closes.
The Englishman said about Fofana and Liverpool on Sky Sports News (2:08pm, January 30, 2021): “Go and get a young gun like Fofana. You know, really push the boat out, offer 100 million+, test the arm of Leicester. I think that’s going to be difficult for him to do.”
Sherwood said about Rice on Optus Sport: “Other than that, I think you bring in a versatile player, someone like a Declan Rice type. I know they’re not going to be able to get Declan Rice. You do pay a lot of money, but they can also play in various positions. They can also play in central midfield, but they’re really comfortable playing centre-back, like an Eric Dier – that type. But where is that?”

Unrealistic option
Fofana has done well for Leicester so far this season and has been very impressive. According to WhoScored, Fofana has played 15 times in the Premier League and six times in the Europa League for the Foxes so far this season.
While leaving Leicester for Liverpool could be very tempting for the 20-year-old central defender, it is hard to see the Foxes sell the Frenchman in the middle of the season.
After all, Brendan Rodgers’s side are challenging for the Premier League title, and the former English champions do not have to sell any player due to financial reasons.
