Tim Sherwood has suggested in the Daily Star that he thinks Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is better than Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Winks.
Phillips was selected alongside Winks in the latest England squad, with the Leeds man receiving his first call-up.
And Sherwood already feels that Phillips is a better option than Winks in the number six role for Gareth Southgate.
“He [Phillips] is exceptional and he’s vying to be the best No6 in that squad, sitting in and around the back four,” Sherwood said.
“I guess you’d have to give Jordan Henderson the nod just above him because of what he’s done with Liverpool but after him, Phillips is better than the rest.
“He really is a player and he’s got everything. Phillips is the full package. I know he hasn’t had Premier League experience but when you get in among better players at international level, you shine and he could be wearing the England shirt for a long time to come.”
Phillips did indeed play a hugely important role last season, as Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League.
His call-up to England reflects his rising reputation within the game, and big things are expected of him this season, with Leeds back in the top flight.

Winks is proven at a higher level than the 24-year-old though, after being a first-team regular at Tottenham for a number of seasons now.
There were fears that Winks’ game time under Jose Mourinho would be limited, but he has continued to play frequently under the Portuguese boss so far.
Winks is currently fighting to keep his place in Tottenham’s starting line-up, following the addition of Pierre Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton this summer.
