Tim Sherwood says Michael Keane has ‘no awareness’ after the Everton defender conceded a penalty during his side’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night at Goodison Park.
After Abdoulaye Doucoure was shown a straight red card for shoving Harry Kane in the face early in the second half, Michael Keane proceeded to make matters worse by clipping Cristian Romero in the penalty area minutes later.
It was a costly error from the Everton centre-back, with no real complaints and Harry Kane putting away the spot-kick – the Spurs striker’s antics during the game were criticised by his former manager.

Despite being down to ten men and a goal down, that’s when Keane, of all people, made amends for his error.
Minutes after a near ankle-breaking tackle from Lucas Moura, which resulted in him getting sent off, Keane unleashed a thunderous shot from outside of the box, which left Hugo Lloris rooted to the spot and ensured Sean Dyche’s side secured a much-needed point.
But the defending from the 30-year-old on the night didn’t impress Tim Sherwood, as he told Premier League Productions (03/04/23 at 10:15 pm)
“No doubt about that all (awarding of the penalty),” said Sherwood. “Keane does this on a regular basis.
“He has no awareness. Romero gets ahead of him and just invites him to kick him, and then he obliges.
“As a manager, you are pulling your hair out when your defender does that. It’s not like he can’t see him. Just stay on your feet, he going away from the goal, it’s just a ludicrous decision.”

MIXED NIGHT FOR KEANE
On one hand, the former Burnley man would have been kicking himself because it was a needless challenge on Romero inside the penalty area.
But there is nothing like sorting your own mess out, and in truth, that Doucoure sending off and Kane goal actually lifted the Goodison Park crowd even further.
It could be argued that they deserved the winner, never mind the equaliser, given how they played – Hugo Lloris was certainly impressed by the relegation-threatened side.
