Did Arsenal miss a trick in not signing Gary Cahill for free?

Tim Sherwood believes that Arsenal missed a trick in signing David Luiz over his former Chelsea team-mate Gary Cahill.
The Gunners needed a replacement centre-back this past summer following the departure of Laurent Koscienly.
Cahill was available on a Bosman after being released by Chelsea but Arsenal wound up signing Luiz for £8 million.
Three months into his spell at the Emirates, the Brazil international hasn’t been a rock alongside Sokratis in central defence, with Unai Emery’s side conceding 15 times in 11 Premier League games this season.
Cahill wound up staying in London by joining Crystal Palace, and former Tottenham Hotspur player and manager Sherwood believes that the towering 33-year-old would’ve been such a better option for the North Londoners, whose recruitment was ‘terrible’.
He told Premier League Productions: “Gary Cahill, he was an obvious choice. We’re talking about someone who’s a Premier League winner, a leader-type character, and they end up going and getting David Luiz. They needed to do that, they haven’t done it, the recruitment’s terrible, and at the moment they’re getting results that they deserve.”
There is pressure mounting on Emery following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates.
It leaves Arsenal fifth in the Premier League table but they could be nine points off the top four if Leicester City go and beat them at The King Power this weekend.
