Tottenham Hotspur have produced many late shows this season, with their latest display very much going their way.
Even Ange Postecoglou would admit that Spurs rode their luck against Brighton, but at the end of the day, all that matters is the three points.
Players like Richarlison have been proving a lot of people wrong this season, but he isn’t the only Tottenham player in that boat.
It was Brennan Johnson who scored the winner in stoppage-time at the weekend and Tim Sherwood thinks he too is ‘wanting to prove a point’, as he told Premier League Productions (12/02/24 at 5:55 pm).
The 22-year-old was signed for big money from Nottingham Forest in the summer, but he has had a mixed time of it in front of goal.
His performances and play leading up to the final third can’t be argued, he is doing a lot of things right, but just at times, he lacks that cutting-edge, decision-making and precise pass/cross or finish.
That has resulted in Brennan Johnson coming under fire, but he made sure to be on point for Tottenham against Brighton and help his team secure a valuable three points.
Tim Sherwood praised Spurs for how they scored that goal and how players like Brennan Johnson are coming off the bench to make a point.
Brennan Johnson’s winner for Tottenham against Brighton
“It was a brilliant goal,” said Sherwood. “But this pass is just incredible from Son.
“Everyone has come off the bench, like Brennan Johnson, wanting to prove a point. Wanting to affect the football match and they are doing it.
“There isn’t anyone at Tottenham leaving early. No one is saying that you need to shut up shop. You are always going to get criticism for that (conceding late goals).
“But they score late goals as well. Their goal difference is fantastic.”

Tottenham’s fight for Champions League
It’s Spurs who are in pole position to make a return to the Champions League next season because they are now one point clear of fifth-placed Aston Villa.
What also helps Postecoglou’s cause is that Villa have now been hit with further injury woe, with midfielder Boubacar Kamara becoming the third player to suffer a season-ending ACL injury after the defeat to Manchester United.
Added to that, there are fears over a knee injury sustained by Ezri Konsa and how that could also be long-term, including the recent hamstring injury suffered by Diego Carlos.
It puts Unai Emery’s men in a spot of bother and it wouldn’t be a surprise if this battle for fourth spot ends up being a fight between sixth-placed Manchester United, who are six points behind, and Tottenham themselves.
