Tim Sherwood has mocked Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and joked about how he got a ‘nosebleed’ by just making a run forward during Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 win over Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.

The former Spurs boss was making reference to the midfield two of Tottenham’s – Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur – not getting forward enough.

Antonio Conte likes the two men in the middle of the park, for his system, to be defensive-minded and that’s exactly what Hojbjerg and Bentancur are – along with Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp.

Well, against the Toffees, after Harry Kane put Spurs ahead after he was fouled by Jordan Pickford in the penalty area, the home team were searching for that all-important second goal and cushion.

And, for the third time this season, Hojbjerg got himself on the scoresheet when his midfield partner in crime fed a ball to him from the right, which he duly dispatched home with a composed finish.

Whilst there was a deflection off Alex Iwobi for that goal, Sherwood made it clear that Hojbjerg will be claiming it, as he told Premier League Productions (15/10/22 at 7:35 pm).

“It’s his goal,” said Sherwood. “He has a nosebleed just travelling that far forward. But when he got in there, he was nice and calm.

“Bentancur makes a great pass into him. He takes it down, shifts it to the side, yes he gets a deflection off Iwobi, but it’s Hojbjerg’s goal, for me.”

EFFICIENT TOTTENHAM

Whilst others are playing the pretty stuff and also getting the points on the board, so are Spurs, but in their own efficient way.

Against Everton, the away side had a number of early chances, on the break, to open the scoring, but they just didn’t have that clinical nature in front of goal.

That’s something Spurs have in abundance, especially with their record-breaking duo – Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

As long as those two stay fit, then Conte will make sure the defence is always organised and hard to beat, and the attacking players will do the rest.
