Tim Sherwood has told TalkSPORT on Thursday morning (9:15AM) that Christian Eriksen would have walked back to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer but Antonio Conte did not want him – with Eriksen since joining Manchester United.
Eriksen, 30, was available on a free transfer in the summer after his return to football, playing for Brentford during the second half of last season. The 120-time Denmark star has gone to play 28 times for United, having a hand in 10 goals.
Scoring only once, Eriksen has been sitting deeper in midfield and forming a brilliant partnership with Casemiro. But he has laid on nine assists for his teammates. It comes after 305 games for Spurs, scoring 69 times and creating 90 assists.
Ex-Tottenham boss Sherwood gave his take on Tottenham’s lack of creativity in midfield. He says £170k-a-week Eriksen would have walked back to Spurs in the summer, but Conte did not sign him – because Eriksen is a creative player.

“They had a chance to sign Eriksen at Tottenham and he would’ve walked back there. But Conte didn’t want him, he didn’t want him because he’s a creative spark. They lack creativity in midfield,” Sherwood told TalkSPORT on Thursday.
Sherwood: Eriksen would have walked back to Tottenham in summer
Little did Spurs and Conte probably realise that Eriksen is more than able to play as a central midfielder, with a player like Casemiro next to him. The Dane has been excellent for United, showing massive energy and creativity in midfield.
Spurs are struggling to keep pace with the top four. They have a chance to reduce the gap with Manchester United drawing against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night – but tonight, they take on Manchester City. A really tough test.
But Spurs do lack that creative player in the middle of the park. Whether Conte’s system would allow that remains to be seen – but, Eriksen seems like the kind of player Spurs lack. A blow, given Sherwood reckons he would have joined.
