Tim Sherwood told Sky Sports News (06/04/21 at 2:10 pm) that David Moyes guiding West Ham to the Champions League would be a greater achievement than if Carlo Ancelotti guided Everton into the top four.
West Ham hold the trump card in the race to play alongside the elite next season, with a number of clubs right on their coattails.
Everton did suffer a bit of a setback on Monday night when they recorded a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace. It leaves them five points behind the fourth-placed Hammers, but they do have a game in hand.
Nonetheless, Sherwood explained why Moyes guiding West Ham into the Champions League would be greater than if Ancelotti did it with Everton.
“David Moyes, oh yes, with the budget,” said Sherwood. “I mean Everton have spent a few quid.
“Carlo has done a good job there. He has put them where they need to be. A club like that. And there are so few games left now. Why not? (get into the Champions League). You only have to hold it together and get a little bit of momentum.
“Them players (Everton) have gone there to play in the Champions League. Okay, it might be a bit of a step too far, at the moment. They are ahead of themselves. But having got there this season. Why cannot they put a run together and achieve that? It would be an unbelievable season.
“Likewise for Moyes. He has steadied the ship. He’s probably thinking that he would be mid-table at best. Far better than that.”
The problem Everton face is that they are lacking a cutting edge and clinical nature to their play in the final third.
Whereas West Ham cannot stop scoring with their thriving goalscoring machine, Jesse Lingard, in the middle of the park.
Everton and West Ham will lock horns next month and that game will be crucial in how this race pans out.
