Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford has been found guilty of deceiving the referee.
Tim Sherwood has told Sky Sports’ The Debate that he thinks Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford will be ‘very embarrassed’ with his part in the chaos against Aston Villa.
Leeds’ home game with Villa looked like being a big game when it was announced for Sky Sports coverage, but Leeds’ automatic promotion hopes were over and Villa had a playoff place sewn up already.
That made the game something of a non-event, at least until the late stages of the second half when Jonathan Kodjia went down injured under a challenge from Liam Cooper.
As Kodjia lay injured, Leeds seemed to be knocking the ball out of play, but Tyler Roberts instead player the ball forward, and Mateusz Klich buried the ball into the corner in a hugely controversial goal.
In the ensuing melee, Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi was sent off for allegedly striking Leeds hitman Bamford, though footage quickly showed there was absolutely no contact.
That incident added even more drama, and has been discussed just as much as Marcelo Bielsa’s decision to allow Villa to walk in an equaliser through Albert Adomah from the kick off.
El Ghazi has had his suspension rescinded after seeing footage of the incident, whilst Bamford has been charged with deceiving the referee for his comical theatrics.
Now, ex-Villa boss Tim Sherwood has had his say, believing that Bamford should get a two-game ban as the rules shouldn’t be changed now, believing that the striker will be ‘very embarrassed’.
“Well you can’t change the law now, the law says that if you kid a referee, then you’re gonna get two games – that’s what he should get,” said Sherwood. “He will be embarrassed by that, very embarrassed,” he added.
