Tim Sherwood says Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli were ‘outstanding’ for Arsenal against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Even though Arsenal let a 2-0 lead slip, Tim Sherwood made it clear that it’s ‘not a disastrous’ result in Mikel Arteta’s Premier League title push.

Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring inside ten minutes, with the help of Bukayo Saka, before Gabriel Jesus doubled his side’s with a brilliant header before the massive wave hit.

There were some who felt that Granit Xhaka started that wall of fire after his clash with Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Jamie Carragher criticising the player.

That’s when Jurgen Klopp’s side fired back, including goals from Mohamed Salah, a missed penalty, a late Roberto Firmino header and some possible title-winning saves from Aaron Ramsdale.

Tim Sherwood thinks the Premier League title race is ‘wide open’ after that result, but thinks it’s not as bad as it’s being made out, as he told PL Productions (10/04/23 at 2:05 pm).

“They (Liverpool) are dangerous,” said Sherwood. “They have got some really dangerous players who can hurt you. They are party poopers at the moment, they are going to spoil a few parties, along the way – and that’s what they did to Arsenal.

“But Arsenal were in so much control. They popped it around them. Martinelli and Saka were outstanding. Odgegaard was controlling things in the middle of the park and they just couldn’t hold.

“It’s wide open now (the Premier League title race) – it might have dented their confidence a little bit, but it’s not disastrous.”

A POINT GAINED OR TWO DROPPED?

Before that thunderous encounter at Anfield, Mikel Arteta spoke about the difficulty of playing away at Liverpool.

So, from his perspective, he will probably see it as a point gained, especially given that a lot of the so-called bigger and better sides have struggled on Merseyside this term.

But, of course, in that context of the match, you can make the argument that this is two points dropped, but in truth, no-one will know until that final whistle is blown at the end of the season.
