Tim Sherwood has expressed his surprise at the number of goals Harry Kane has scored in Tottenham Hotspur colours and how he didn’t expect that he would become the club’s all-time top-scorer.
The former Tottenham boss, who handed Kane the first start of his goal-crazy career, compared the England captain to Lionel Messi and how he ‘isn’t’ a podium player’ like the Argentina legend, as he told Premier League Productions (05/02/23 at 6:35 pm).
From the moment Kane stepped foot onto the Premier League stage for the first time, he has never been a flashy player, either on or off the pitch.

The 29-year-old isn’t someone who is a loudmouth, but just a player that stays out of the limelight, does his job on the field of play and you see him on the back pages, rather than the front.
Well, after he scored goal number 267 during Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Manchester City, he might just now be making the front pages of newspapers.
That’s because he beats Jimmy Greaves’ long-standing record at Spurs, with Sherwood sharing his thoughts on his achievement.
On if he thought Kane would score 200+ goals: “No, not even worth thinking about,” said Sherwood. “I knew the boy had the ability to play in the Premier League. A lot of other people doubted him.
“But I felt that the demands that he puts on himself. The work rate he puts in every single day. He deserves all the accolades of what’s coming towards him.
“To be the top scorer of such a great football club says everything. And he’s not finished yet – look at that goalscoring record, it’s incredible. The great Jimmy Greaves. Did anyone think that he would surpass him? Well, the great Harry Kane has.
“He isn’t a podium player, by any means. You wouldn’t stick him up there as a gold medalist and say ‘he is a certainty’, like Lionel Messi, when you first clap your eyes on him and you think ‘wow’. He (Kane) is someone who has worked on his trade and got better and better. Thank goodness Mauricio Pochettino took over after me.”

NOW FOR THE TROPHIES…
It’s all well and good Kane having all these records, it won’t be long before he becomes England’s all-time top-scorer as well.
But he needs medals to go with it, or else he will have big regrets when he is long retired.
Does that mean leaving Spurs? Well, if that’s the best option, then he has to do it and he has to make that move in the summer.
What Kane needs to remember is that, if he signs a new contract at Hotspur Way, then he will stay at the club for the rest of his life, and more than likely, risk the chance of not winning any silverware, which would be an utter shame.
