Aston Villa have recently signed John Terry on a free transfer.
Tim Sherwood has told talkSPORT that Aston Villa are arguably the biggest club in the Championship.
Villa will feature in the Championship next season after failing to win promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.
The Villans will be aiming to end up in the top six in 2017-18, and if results are good in the opening weeks and months, then Steve Bruce’s side could even attempt for automatic promotion.
Villa are one of the biggest clubs in England and have a loyal fanbase, but there are a number of other big and well-supported clubs in the Championship.
Leeds United, Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland are just some of the well-known and historic clubs in the second tier of English football.
Former Villa manager Sherwood, though, seems to believe that the Villans are the biggest club in England, a claim which the Villa Park faithful will certainly love.
The former Tottenham Hotspur boss has also backed John Terry to be a success at Villa. The Villans have signed the former England international central defender on a free transfer following his departure from Premier League giants Chelsea at the end of last month.
“I think John Terry could still play in the Premier League, but he has chosen to go to arguably the biggest club in the Championship,” Sherwood told talkSPORT.
“I think it is a great move for both John Terry and Aston Villa,” added Sherwood. “They are certainly showing their intent with the signing of John Terry because they are not looking to the future – it is immediate success they want.
“They want promotion this season and John Terry will help them out immensely in that regard. This signing is so big. He will lift everyone.”
