Tottenham Hotspur have not won a major trophy since 2008.
Tim Sherwood has told The Debate on Sky Sports, which was broadcast on 20th September, that Tottenham Hotspur have two seasons left to win something – otherwise their current team will be dismantled.
Spurs have come so close to winning the Premier League title for two campaigns running, but they are yet to end their wait for silverware.
Tottenham have not won a major trophy since they lifted the League Cup in 2008, and Sherwood has warned that their wait for tangible success cannot go on for much longer.
“One or two seasons. Probably this season,” Sherwood said, when asked how long Spurs have to win a trophy.
“It’s going to be very difficult to keep hold of their players with the money that’ll be thrown at them. Not only the money, but the teams which might show interest in them.
“Kyle Walker has left, and he’s gone to a club where he thinks he’ll win something. That’ll happen with the rest of the boys. Daniel Levy has a tough job on his hands and will have to increase the wages, or if they look like they are going to win something this year it might keep the boys there for another year or two. But it’s going to be very difficult for them.”
Tottenham simply do not have the financial power to compete with many of their Premier League rivals for wages, and the murmurings of discontent began over the summer.
Spurs are already playing catch up in the Premier League too, after making a slow start – especially at their new home Wembley.
Tottenham have made a bright start in the Champions League though, and progressed to the fourth round of the League Cup last night, meaning their hopes of delivering silverware are still well and truly alive.
