Tim Sherwood told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (28/11/20 at 2:40 pm) that Ross Barkley will be ‘staying’ at Aston Villa and he has now ‘seen the back’ of Chelsea.

The Everton academy product is on-loan at Villa this season and he, along with Jack Grealish, has played a huge part in their positive start to the campaign.

He will miss Villa’s trip to West Ham United tonight because of a hamstring injury he sustained during his side’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton.

Former Villa boss, Sherwood thinks the Midlands side can cope without their ball-carrying number eight, as he made quite the claim about his future in B6.

“I think they can [cope without him],” said Sherwood. “I think Ross has been great for them and I see him staying at the football club.

“He has seen the back of Chelsea now. I think he will go there [Villa]. He would have walked into the doors and seen how big that football club is.

“He has done very well, along with Jack Grealish and Douglas Luiz in the midfield area. I think they have a good balance to their squad now. I think they have enough options off the bench. Traore will come on. They also have Trezeguet. I am sure they have enough.

“I think they are solid at the back now. Mings and Konsa are better this season, along with Martinez behind them. They have a good foundation. I think they can cope without Ross. But, obviously, a player of that quality you are going to miss him.”

It could be argued that a combination of Grealish and Barkley doesn’t just work on the domestic stage, but can also do bits on the international scene.

Grealish has recently broken through that previously metal-like barrier at St George’s Park and he is now an England regular.

Meanwhile, Barkley will be hoping his performances for Villa remind Gareth Southgate that he is still able to do a job for him after he lost his place because of a lack of game time.
