The Aston Villa midfielder can be class, but not until he’s consistent.
Tim Sherwood has told The Birmingham Mail that he keeps in contact with Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.
Sherwood was sacked as Aston Villa manager in October 2015 in a season which saw the Villans relegated from the Premier League.
Steve Bruce is now in charge of the West Midlands club and the veteran manager, who has four promotions to the top flight under his belt, will be hoping to add another one to his CV next season.
One man who could have a big role to play is 21-year-old midfielder Grealish, who is yet to fulfil the potential he showed under Sherwood in the Premier League.
The England Under-21 international was in and out of the first XI under Bruce last term, and Sherwood claims that the youngster needs regular football.
“It’s a big year for all of those boys, especially Jack. Jack has to play week in, week out and has to really affect football matches. He’s got the ability to do that, we all know that,” he told The Birmingham Mail.
“He needs to knuckle down. I’ve spoken to him a few times since I’ve left and I’m always on the end of the phone.
“I know what it takes and it isn’t always telling them what they’re good at. We all know what Jack’s good at but somebody has got to tell him the things he isn’t good at and someone needs to tell him honestly about that.”
Grealish is obviously a super talent but consistency is his enemy at the moment – and always will be unless he sorts it out.
Few doubt his potential, but he turns 22 in September and, really, we should be talking about what he has done rather than what he can do for Aston Villa.
