Tim Sherwood told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (19/12/20 at 1:55 pm) that Aston Villa duo Ezri Konsa and Emi Martinez have been ‘fantastic’ and ‘brilliant’ for the club this season.

Added with that, the ex-Villa boss brutally claimed that West Brom will get relegated this season if they don’t make changes to their squad in January.

Following West Brom’s draw at Manchester City in midweek, the club sacked Slaven Bilic and appointed Sam Allardyce.

Even though Albion have brought in a firefighter of a manager, who has never been relegated before, Sherwood thinks that they will go down with this current crop of players if Allardyce isn’t backed next month.

“They [West Brom] obviously expected Slaven Bilic to do more than he did,” said Sherwood. “Is it right to expect that? I don’t think it is. It’s a very, very inexperienced squad for Premier League level.

“If you tell me will Sam Allardyce keep them up with this group? I would tell you no. No matter if it’s Slaven Bilic, Mourinho, no-one is keeping them up with these group of players.”

Villa will travel down to the Hawthorns this evening for a mouthwatering Midlands clash.

Dean Smith’s men have picked up four points from their last two matches and will have the likes of Matty Cash and Douglas Luiz returning from suspension.

Sherwood shared his thoughts on Villa and how they have been ‘unlucky’ recently.

“They were missing Ezri Konsa against Burnley and I think he has been brilliant this season, with Mings in the centre-back position. They miss Cash as well. Douglas Luiz. They did it without a few. Ross Barkley as well.

“Jack Grealish was, obviously, the best player on the pitch. Everything was going to come through him. I think they are playing very, very well. I just think they have been unlucky – I think Martinez in goal has been a fantastic signing.”
