Tim Sherwood fires emphatic message to Tottenham over recent struggles

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has been coming under real pressure for the first time since arriving in North London.

The Argentine has been fighting off accusations that his decision to release a book on his time at Tottenham has played a part in Spurs’ struggles to reach expectations in the Premier League this season.

Tottenham have lost 3 of their last five Premier League games and have just four points to show from that run.

A 2-1 defeat to Leicester City last time out has seen Pochettino questioned for the first time in his Tottenham tenure despite the club’s excellent form and performances in the Champions League this season.

Spurs currently sit seventh and are four points off the Champions League places with the ‘Wembley issue’ hanging around like a bad smell.

But former Tottenham player and manager Tim Sherwood has delivered an emphatic message to his old club when appearing as a guest on Sky Sports’ The Debate.

“I just think things are not going for them at the moment, I think there were two wonder goals from Leicester… Tottenham still had enough chances to win that game but just never took them,” Sherwood told The Debate.

“I don’t think they’re playing badly, I just think at the moment they’re not getting the rub of the green, it’s not going for them.

“I’m not making excuses… I don’t think Wembley is an excuse… I think he’s a great manager, he’s got a great set of players – I think it’s the best set of players he’s had since he’s been at the club.

“I believe he will turn it around and I believe he will get (Spurs) where they should be and that’s in the top four.

“There is minor issues, but every club has issues, but do not panic, stay calm and everything will be fine, just don’t panic.”

Things don’t come much more emphatic than that and it is sage advice in a season where Premier League managers seem more expendable than ever before.

Frank de Boer, Craig Shakespeare, Ronald Koeman, Slaven Bilic and Tony Pulis have already lost their jobs while the likes of Mark Hughes at Stoke City and Paul Clement at Swansea City are also under pressure.

Spurs face a tricky trip to Watford on Saturday where a win can get their season back on track.

And Watford’s attacking style might suit Spurs who have struggled against sides who have been allowing them more possession and sitting back this season.
