Newcastle United have completed just one permanent signing so far this summer.
Tim Sherwood has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on 4th July on TalkSPORT, that Newcastle United are struggling in the transfer window – due to their geographical location.
Sherwood feels that Newcastle are fighting a losing battle as they look to bring in foreign players, as they are so far north.
The former Tottenham and Villa boss believes that foreign players tend to favour moves to southern clubs, which means Newcastle could struggle to complete transfers.
“No disrespect for Newcastle, but if they want to sign foreign players, they tend to move south,” Sherwood said.
“Mike won’t want to fall out of the division. They’re in there now, and he’s an astute businessman and knows where to spend to how much. But he certainly needs to put his hand in his pocket and give Rafa a certain amount money.”
Newcastle have indeed found things difficult in the transfer window so far, with frustrations rising around St. James’ Park.
The Magpies have managed to snap up just one player so far, with Christian Atsu joining on a permanent deal from Chelsea.
And Sherwood feels that Newcastle have a similar chance to Brighton & Hove Albion, in the fight for survival in the Premier League.
“No, I would say they have an equal chance,” Sherwood said, when asked if Newcastle are more likely to stay up than Brighton.
“I think both of them are new to the Premier League. And certainly Brighton will catch teams on the hop.”
