Tim Sherwood has told PLP’s Matchday Extra that he thinks there is a lot of pressure on new Leeds manager Jesse Marsch, but is confident the new American gaffer will keep them in the Premier League after Saturday.
Leeds suffered a 1-0 defeat to Leicester during Saturday’s lunchtime clash at the King Power. But Leeds dominated the game and will have been wondering how they did not score – Raphinha missing from two yards out.
The Whites were much improved. That is, despite Marsch not changing personnel, but tactically – Leeds went from man-marking to zonal marking. There were plenty of positives to take, with their injured players returning.
Patrick Bamford was on the bench and Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper are in training. Speaking to Matchday Extra, Sherwood says the pressure is on Marsch but after watching on Saturday, is confident he will keep Leeds up.
“He’s not got time, he’s under pressure because the fans love Bielsa. A very encouraging display, if they play that well they will win more than they lose. They will stay in the Premier League. We don’t want to lose Leeds.”
Sherwood on Leeds, Marsch: Why Leeds have a real chance, now
The next five games are crucial for Leeds. Having played against Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham and then away at Leicester in their last four matches – Leeds have a nicer run of games in the next five.
They take on Aston Villa at Elland Road on Thursday, and then face Norwich, Wolves, Southampton at Watford. Everton have a much tougher run – Wolves, Newcastle, West Ham, Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea.
Burnley have Manchester City and West Ham, but also Norwich and Brentford in their next four games. So, Leeds have a real chance. If they can pick up nine points from the next five games – it could save them.
