Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham has enjoyed a successful campaign at Aston Villa this season.
Tim Sherwood and Curtis Davies have lauded Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham and urged his parent club, Chelsea, to give him an opportunity in the first team.
Former Villa manager Sherwood claims that Abraham would outperform and score more goals than Alvaro Morata, who is currently on-loan at Atletico Madrid after struggling to produce the goods at Stamford Bridge.
As reported by BBC Sport, Fifa recently rejected Chelsea’s appeal to have their current transfer ban overturned, which seemingly increases the chances of their loan players being given a chance in the first team.
Speaking on The Debate on Sky Sports Premier League (08/05/2019 at 10:40 pm), former Villa duo Davies and Sherwood spoke about Abraham and his potential.
“You need to give him a go,” Davies told The Debate. “Ultimately, when he played in the Premier League, he played for a struggling Swansea side. He’s been at Bristol City on-loan and Aston Villa. When he’s had those two loans, he has thrived. About 50 odd goals over those two loan periods. If he were to be in a Chelsea side it would be interesting to see what he could do
Sherwood added: “The transaction is easier. When you play alongside world-class players on the big stage, it’s easier for them to perform. Tammy Abraham has always ticked the box wherever he has gone he has ticked the box.
“His first loan at Bristol City, he hit the floor running and scored goals. Moved to a bigger club in Aston Villa and scored goals. He’d score more goals than Morata, given the same opportunity. How much did they pay Morata? How much wages were they paying him? Afford him the same opportunities as the £150 million player, why shouldn’t you? Level playing field.”
In 2017, Chelsea paid Real Madrid £60 million for the services of Morata [BBC Sport], but he struggled to put the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis and has since been loaned out by the club.
Abraham has enjoyed a stellar campaign in the second tier of English football and he will be hoping for a chance to shine with his parent club next term.
The Poacher has scored 25 goals for Dean Smith’s side this term [Transfermarkt] and he could add to that tally with the playoffs around the corner.
Villa will play Midland rivals West Brom over two-legs in the coming week, with the winner going on to Wembley and aiming to make a return to the Premier League.
