Tim Sherwood has been critical of how Hugo Lloris was playing out from the back during Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-1 draw against Everton at Goodison Park on Monday night.

The former Spurs boss thinks Hugo Lloris was ‘raising the anxiety’ amongst his own teammates because of the manner he was playing out from the back.

There were a few occasions when the Everton players dispossessed their opponents, but they weren’t able to capitalise on those errors.

This was Lloris’ first game back since February, and even though Fraser Forster did a very good job, stand-in coach Cristian Stellini decided to bring the error-prone 36-year-old back into the XI.

There will be some Spurs fans stating that Forster should have kept his place because he didn’t do anything wrong to lose the gloves.

Nonetheless, the passing out from the back from Tottenham didn’t sit well with Tim Sherwood, as he told Premier League Productions (03/04/23 at 10:15 pm).

“Hugo Lloris came back in against Everton,” said Sherwood. “He is the most experienced player they have.

“He is a World Cup winner. He is trying to play out onto the penalty spot, little triangles, he was raising the anxiety, the crowd were getting on top of them and they were nicking the ball off them.

“Everton had opportunities, but from Tottenham’s own bad play really and in dangerous areas. They should just be clearing the ball up the field and taking a breather. They didn’t manage the game well.”

LLORIS’ TIME IS UP

There have been many error-prone performances from the France international this season, and at his age, it’s time to move him on.

From his error in the north London derby against Arsenal to providing Aston Villa with a helping hand during their win at Spurs.

Lloris isn’t improving but regressing and a new face needs to be brought in – there are suggestions that he will be sold.
