Tim Sherwood has told the Kelly and Wrighty show that Jose Mourinho told Daniel Levy that Troy Parrott, Oliver Skipp and Kyle Walker-Peters are ‘not good enough’ for Tottenham.

Three of those players departed Spurs this summer, Walker-Peters was sold to Southampton, whilst the other two are on-loan in the Championship.

The loaned out duo, especially Parrott who is still a teenager, they still have a lot to prove and they will be hoping that their stints at Millwall and Norwich, respectively, will shape them to become regulars in the future.

But Sherwood thinks, Mourinho has said one thing in public about the Spurs players, but once the ink on his contract has dried, he has said the opposite to Levy.

“Jose Mourinho has gone in there, Troy Parrott’s not good enough, Walker-Peters is not good enough, Oliver Skipp,” said Sherwood. “Not only not good enough. He gets rid of them. He gets them away from the football club.

“So, all of a sudden now. He has got a shadow of the squad and what he says to Daniel Levy, which is the biggest art in any management, is to get the owner to spend money.

“When he first went in there, Jose Mourinho, they asked him ‘do you need any players?’ He said ‘no, I am happy with the squad’. What a wonderful squad, from the outside. He goes in there, after the inks dry, and he goes to Daniel Levy ‘these are not good enough. We need this one, that one and go get me them’. And Daniel has backed him.”

Walker-Peters would perhaps feel hard done by because some Spurs fans may say that they prefer their academy product over someone like Serge Aurier.

But Mourinho opted to let him go, and with that money, they were able to secure Pierre Emile Hojbjerg’s services, who has been one of the signings of the summer.

There’s no doubt that Mourinho has added more experience and bite into the Tottenham squad. That is proven with the purchases of Gareth Bale, Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty, Joe Hart and Sergio Reguilon, who are experienced performers at the top level.
