Tim Sherwood has claimed on Sky Sports that Liverpool forward Sadio Mane did not want to come on for the second half against Chelsea.

Liverpool suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea at Anfield in the Premier League on Thursday evening.

Senegal international forward Mane started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager Sherwood has claimed that he noted that the 28-year-old did not want to come on for the second half.

Sherwood said on Sky Sports: “He needs Sadio Mane. [Klopp] is having to almost drag Sadio Mane onto the pitch saying ‘come on’. He’s trying gee him up, galvanise him to go and play one of the biggest games of the season.

“You shouldn’t have to drag a player and try gee him up and liven him up to get him on the pitch for the second half. You should automatically be springing on.”

Staying positive

Mane is not having the best of seasons, but Liverpool fans should stay positive that the Senegal international will get back to his best soon.

After all, all players go through bad spells, and the former Southampton star is simply having a tough time in front of goal.

Goals will come for Mane if he continues to have faith in himself and does all the things that have made him successful in the past.

According to WhoScored, the 28-year-old has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 23 Premier League starts, and has scored two goals and provided one assist in five Champions League starts for Liverpool so far this season.
