Tim Sherwood told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (20/02/21 at 1:35 pm) that Matty Cash has been a ‘revelation’ for Aston Villa.
The right-back won’t be taking to the field for Villa today against Leicester City because he picked up a hamstring injury against Brighton last week.
It seems as though the experienced Ahmed Elmohamady will step in for the summer signing from Nottingham Forest.
From an attacking sense, Villa’s performance at Brighton recently was perhaps their worst of the season, but Sherwood still praised them for grinding out a result.
“A little bit (on the edge going off on Villa’s performances recently),” said Sherwood. “But they are still finding ways.
“Like the other day at Brighton, they played in a way not to lose the football match. Martinez was brilliant, with the saves that he made, so they can grind it out as well.
“The recruitment was excellent in the summer. I think Matty Cash has been a revelation for them.
“Ross Barkley came into the football club and he took the onus off Jack Grealish. I think he has been quiet over recent weeks. Picked up a few injuries. But they are getting back to it and they are a quality side.”

To the surprise of some, if not many Aston Villa supporters, Cash was their first purchase of the summer and one that perhaps wasn’t needed.
Villa had Frederic Guilbert on that right-side, with Elmohamady’s experience assisting him.
But Smith clearly saw some issues with the now-loaned out Guilbert, as Cash was snapped up and then walked straight into Villa’s starting XI.
And in truth, he has turned out to be one of the signings of the summer, a shrewd piece of business and one of Villa’s best player prior to his injury.
