Tim Sherwood said on Sky Sports News (12:07pm, March 6, 2021) that Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe will be disappointed that he did not start against Burnley at the weekend.

Pepe was superb for Arsenal in their win against Leicester City on February 28 and played a big role.

The Ivory Coast international winger scored a goal and was a problem for the Foxes defensively throughout his time on the pitch.

However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta decided to leave Pepe out of the starting lineup against Burnley in the league at the weekend.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager Sherwood believes that Pepe, 25, will be disappointed not to start against the Clarets.

Sherwood said about Pepe on Sky Sports News (12:07pm, March 6, 2021): “I think it was his best performance in an Arsenal shirt, and that will give him confidence to go again. I thought he was very, very good. It looks like he has got the confidence now.”

The Englishman added: “To find himself on the bench, he will be very very disappointed.”

Saving Nicolas Pepe for the Europa League?

Pepe did come on as a substitute in the second half against Burnley and was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty.

Perhaps Arteta was saving the winger for the Europa League game against Olympiakos this week.

The Gunners are not doing great in the Premier League at the moment, and the Europa League is now a very big and important competition for them.
