Tim Sherwood claims Liverpool’s season would be considered ‘very poor’ if they don’t win a trophy

Liverpool still have the chance to win the Premier League title and the Champions League.

Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood has claimed that Liverpool’s season should be considered as ‘very poor’ if they fail to win a trophy this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are in the Champions League final and have taken the Premier League title race to the last day of the season with Manchester City currently holding the advantage.

On Tuesday night, they overturned a three-goal deficit to beat Barcelona in stunning fashion at Anfield, whilst they could finish the campaign on 97 points and still finish as runners-up.

Speaking on The Debate on Sky Sports Premier League (08/05/2019 at 10:15 pm), Sherwood didn’t hold back when he was talking about Liverpool potentially going trophyless this term.

“If they come away without the trophy [PL] and don’t win the Champions League then it’s been a very poor season,” Sherwood told The Debate. “It’s been a poor season because he hasn’t got a trophy in the cabinet.

“It’s all about winning. When you are a manager and when you are a player, no-one is going to say ‘do you remember when we finished in the Champions League final? and runner-up in the league?’. Show me your medal.

“I have got a couple of runners-up medals. I never ever tell people I have them. I won’t even show. I got a runners-up medal in the FA Cup final as a manager. I wouldn’t show it. I’m embarrassed by it.”

In the league, Liverpool have only lost one game this term and that was against potential champion-elect Manchester City in January.

Following their stunning comeback against Barca, Klopp’s side will now turn their focus on the final game of the campaign and trying to end their English league title drought.

If the Merseyside club beat Wolves on home soil and City drop points at already-safe Brighton then Klopp and his players will be crowned champions.

Then at the start of next month, they have the chance to win their sixth European title with Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham standing in their way of glory.
