Tim Sherwood told Optus Sport on Premier League Productions that Liverpool defender Trent Alexander Arnold has a ’superb’ IQ.

After a troublesome time in Madrid, Alexander-Arnold bounced back in fine style by scoring the winner for Liverpool against Aston Villa over the weekend.

A brilliant, pin-point stoppage-time strike from the edge of the area ensured that Liverpool kept their top-four hopes alive.

And Sherwood hailed TAA for knuckling down and doing the business after his performances were being questioned.

“He could have done one or two things,” said Sherwood. “He could have gone under and sulked and thrown his toys out of the pram.

“But he’s not going to do that. He has rolled his sleeves up and said ‘I will show you. I will perform for my club. We are champions and everyone is top draw and I am going to show you why I am a top draw player’.

“That goal was a little bit of calmness. It was cute. His footballing IQ is superb for this kid.”

Jamie Carragher was quick to call out Gary Neville live on Sky once Alexander-Arnold’s strike hit the back of the net against Villa.

But, ultimately, their next visitors to Merseyside are the ones who are going to provide the acid test.

And if Trent makes any mistakes in that then a certain former right-back will be quick to answer his Sky colleague.
