Everton have been linked with a move for Arsenal forward Theo Walcott.

Tim Sherwood has told BT Sport that Everton should not make a move for Arsenal’s Theo Walcott this month.

The Daily Telegraph have claimed that Everton are on the verge of snapping up the England international for £20 million.

However, Sherwood believes that Everton should back their current squad to get them out of trouble.

The former Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur boss feels that Ademola Lookman is ready to make the step up at Goodison Park, and could perform a similar function to Walcott.

“I wouldn’t block it up,” Sherwood said. “I would keep Lookman and Bolasie. I don’t think Theo is guaranteed [to be a success]. You might as well go with a kid who is going to develop.”

Lookman did not even make it off the substitutes’ bench yesterday, as Everton were beaten 4-0 by Tottenham.

The youngster has suffered with a lack of chances during both Ronald Koeman’s and Sam Allardyce’s time in charge of the Toffees.

Lookman, when offered opportunities, has looked bright – but Allardyce appears to have reservations over utilising the England youth international.

Walcott, meanwhile, has barely featured for Arsenal this term and looks set to move on in the coming weeks.

Everton are said to be competing with Southampton for the Arsenal forward’s signature.
