Well, Aaron Ramsdale to Arsenal is finally a done deal.

The Gunners announced on Friday that they had signed the 23-year-old goalkeeper in what could be a £30 million deal overall, according to Sky Sports.

It had developed into something of a transfer saga, after Arsenal previously broke off negotiations with Sheffield United for the England Under-21 stopper.

But he’s in North London now and Mikel Arteta and Edu can now look forward to addressing other key areas during the final week of the window.

Some fans of the Emirates Stadium club aren’t entirely convinced that Ramsdale – relegated with the Blades last season – is worth the hefty amount that their side have paid.

Arsenal were also linked with a move for Sam Johnstone earlier in the summer, with the West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper being available for £12 million.

And Tim Sherwood has told Optus Sport that he feels a move for the Baggies star would’ve made more sense than Ramsdale.

He said: “I don’t like goalkeepers who’ve been relegated. He’s been relegated three times! I think Sam Johnstone was a better option, someone who I think is a better presence and a bit more experience as well.”

Is Sherwood right?

Well only time will tell.

The thing about Ramsdale is that he’s clearly a long-term investment because there’s no guarantee he’s even going to displace Bernd Leno as Arsenal’s number one immediately.

Even Arteta himself said on Friday that the player has ‘huge, huge potential‘ and that right there ought to tell you that the Gunners have signed Ramsdale not for what he is, but what he could be and being five years than Johnstone, they obviously feel that he’s going to be a much better keeper down the line.
