Tim Sherwood told Premier League Production during their live coverage of Tottenham’s defeat to Leicester on Sunday that Serge Aurier will ‘always let you down’.
With the game at 0-0, Aurier gave away a careless penalty when he bundled over Wesley Fofana in the box, as Jamie Vardy obliged and punished title-chasing Tottenham.
James Maddison played his part in his side doubling their lead straight after the break, as it was another defensive mistake from Spurs – this time Aurier wasn’t involved.
Nonetheless, during his time at Spurs, £23 million Aurier [BBC Sport] has been a liability for the club, and Sherwood summed up his actions yesterday.
“Unnecessary is the understatement of the year,” said Sherwood. “I mean, what is he doing?! This boy will always let you down.
“He has had a few games where he hasn’t and he’s done okay. But he’s so likely to do this, at any time. He cannot win the ball. Fofana knows its Serge Aurier. He knows all he has to do is get his body across in the penalty area then hit the floor because this boy will come into the back of me.
“It’s exactly what he does here. I just cannot understand what’s going through Serge Aurier’s mind there.”

In Tottenham’s All or Nothing Amazon documentary, Jose Mourinho expressed how someone like Aurier worries him because he gives away **** penalties.
Well, he gave away yet another one yesterday and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is out of the starting XI on Boxing Day.
Matt Doherty is another option for Mourinho, but he has seemingly fallen out of favour in the Premier League and the versatile Japhet Tanganga is currently on the sidelines with an injury.
