Newcastle United and Aston Villa are currently among the favourites to win the Championship next season.
Tim Sherwood has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 20th July, that Newcastle United are certainties to win the Championship next campaign.
Newcastle are currently the favourites to win the second tier, and Sherwood feels that they will live up to expectations.
To do so, Newcastle will have to beat off competition from Sherwood’s former side Aston Villa.
Sherwood was in charge at Villa at the start of last season, but a disastrous opening cost him his job.
Sherwood now feels that Roberto Di Matteo has a very tough job on at Villa Park, but he believes that the Midlands club can compete for promotion.
“I know he [Di Matteo] has got a tough job,” Sherwood said. “He’s got a lot of players there who can do a good job in the Championship. I think Newcastle are absolutely nailed on to win that league, but Villa should be right up there.”
Villa are believed to be one of Newcastle’s main rivals to win the Championship next term.
The Claret and Blues have been prepared to invest since being relegated, and they have brought in three new players.
Villa’s season gets underway next month with a match against Sheffield Wednesday, while Newcastle will take on Fulham on opening day.
