Derby County have brought in Ashley Cole, with Frank Lampard looking to strengthen at left-back.

Cole joined Derby yesterday to bolster Frank Lampard’s options at left-back.
The 38-year-old is now in the twilight of his career, but Merson and Sherwood both claim that Cole could be a brilliant addition at Pride Park, if he still has something left in the tank.
Merson said: “Only time will tell, he hasn’t played for a while. His experience is immense. They’re quite an open team, they have a go wherever they play.
“Legend is used very loosely, but he’s a legend. He’s the best English left-back I’ve seen. If they can get 50% of what he had at Chelsea he’ll be a signing and a half.”
Cole has been playing in MLS with LA Galaxy recently, which means he may have lost some sharpness.
But Sherwood thinks that Cole’s experience and knowhow could prove vital to Derby over the second half of the campaign.
“I would think he’s brought him in for two reasons,” Sherwood suggested.

“Obviously on the pitch and the support he can give the young players. It’s not just about what he can give you over 90 minutes, it’s about what he can develop.”
Lampard, of course, knows Cole very well having played with the left-back at both Chelsea and for England.
Derby have been looking for a new left-back, with Lampard not fully satisfied with his options in the position.
Cole could make his Derby debut at the weekend, when the Rams take on Accrington Stanley.
