Tottenham Hotspur completed the biggest deal on transfer deadline day, as they snapped up Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle United in a £30 million deal.

The move for the Frenchman came as a surprise from Spurs – especially at such an inflated fee.

The midfielder was being linked with a heap of teams this summer. The likes of Real Madrid were even being mentioned.

But in the end Spurs got their man.

But according to another player who departed Newcastle this summer, Sissoko thought he was off elsewhere.

Tim Krul, Newcastle’s veteran goalkeeper who headed to Ajax on loan this summer, told Ajax TV that Sissoko was certain he was on his way to Italy this summer:

“He thought himself that he would go to Italy, that is what he told me only last week.

“And now he is in London.”

The Frenchman was heavily linked with Inter Milan this summer – but that was while Roberto Mancini was in charge.

Ironically, he was sacked by the Nerazzurri after a thrashing from Spurs in a pre-season friendly.

Sissoko may have been anticipating a move to Italy but surely he is happier to be remaining in England with Spurs.

Tottenham fans will certainly hope he plays like it.
