Everton icon Wayne Rooney has finally ended speculation surrounding his future by leaving Goodison Park for a second time to join MLS outfit DC United, and former stars Tim Cahill and Ramiro Funes Mori reacted on social media.

The 32-year-old leaves Everton after rejoining the Merseyside club from Manchester United last summer, but only managed to score 11 goals last season.

Indeed, he was used as somewhat of a bit-part player by manager Sam Allardyce who regularly substituted the former England captain throughout the campaign.

Now, Marco Silva and Marcel Brands believe Rooney was not needed at Everton ahead of the 2018-19 campaign and have allowed him to move to America. Toffees icon Cahill reacted on Twitter to the news.

Rooney is the fifth players to leave Everton this summer, after David Henen and Joel Robles were released while youngster Conor Grant moved to English club Plymouth Argyle.

Defender Funes Mori also left Goodison Park, moving to La Liga side Villarreal and the Argentina international also congratulated Rooney on his move to DC – this time via Instagram.

All the best @waynerooney it was a pleasure to have you as a teammate!!!
