Everton came from behind to beat Crystal Palace in a stunning 3-2 win at Goodison Park that sparked absolute bedlam – and both Tim Cahill and Phil Neville have reacted instantly on Twitter. The Toffees are now safe.
It looked to be another dismal night for Everton at half-time, as the scoreline read 2-0 to Palace. Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jordan Ayew had scored goals for the Eagles, with Patrick Vieira’s side in mid-table obscurity.
A loss for Everton would have seen them stay on 36 points, and with Aston Villa drawing 1-1 with Burnley, the Toffees would be a point above the drop zone. But Everton came roaring back, scoring three second-half goals.
Michael Keane got things underway shortly before the hour mark, before Richarlison made it 2-2 inside the last 15. Then, the moment all Everton fans have been dreaming of, came when Dom Calvert-Lewin scored the winner.
It sparked incredible scenes at Goodison, in which flares were set off and fans stormed the pitch – showing utter delight. The full-time whistle went, and Everton are safe. Tim Cahill and Phil Neville reacted on Twitter.
Neville and Cahill react as Everton stay up: Lampard deserves praise
When Frank Lampard took over, it was certainly a risk. A manager that during his entire career, has never been embroiled in a relegation scrap. But he has ultimately done a brilliant job, in the Everton dugout.
Everton fans can now look forward to a nice, peaceful last game against Arsenal with four points separating the Toffees from the drop zone. A massive achievement, but the right one for Lampard and Everton.
