Butch Harmon has made an interesting comparison, likening Scottie Scheffler to Jack Nicklaus.
Tiger Woods’ name often comes up in these discussions, and there are obvious reasons for that. But Scheffler has downplayed those comparisons, preferring to focus on his own path.

And for Butch Harmon – who knows Tiger’s game better than most – it’s not Woods who comes to mind when he watches Scheffler. It’s Jack Nicklaus.
Butch Harmon explains why Scottie Scheffler resembles Jack Nicklaus more than Tiger Woods
Anyone who watches Scottie Scheffler knows one of his standout qualities is how steady he is. He rarely makes mistakes, and when they do happen, they stand out because they’re so uncommon.
It’s easy to draw parallels between Scheffler and Tiger Woods, especially given their dominance. But for Butch Harmon, the better comparison is with Jack Nicklaus.
Harmon spent plenty of time around both legends and sees more of Nicklaus in Scheffler.

“For me, what I love about Scottie Scheffler is he is in complete control of his life. In interviews he says the most important thing isn’t winning golf tournaments and if he does then that week is over,” Harmon said.
“He’s figured out a way of life that works for him. When he tees it up he’s 100% invested. When he plays casually he likes to play with his buddies and live a normal life.”

Their personalities are another difference, as Harmon went on to say: “He flies under the radar a little bit, compared to other superstars because he doesn’t have the most gregarious personality. He’s a funny guy. But he’s not as charismatic as say a Rory is, or like Tiger was.”
Scheffler may lack the outward charisma of others at his level but according to Harmon: “That’s just him, you know. Right now, he’s by far and away the best player in the world. By far the smartest player.”
Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods set a record that Scottie Scheffler matched in 2025
It’s getting to the point where there isn’t much left to say about Scottie Scheffler. Time and again, he shows just how good he is, so it’s no surprise to hear his name mentioned alongside some of the game’s greatest players.
Scheffler gave even more weight to those comparisons by winning the BMW Championship, joining Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer on an exclusive list.
With the Ryder Cup still ahead and the 2026 season not far off after Christmas, another year like the past two would only strengthen his case as one of the all-time greats.
